If you don’t already know, self-hypnosis is the way of directing your mind towards a short term, medium term, or long term goal. And if you are interested in losing weight, there are a few things you want to direct your mind’s focus upon. Those things are the behaviors that will naturally lead you to what your goal is. In the case of weight loss, those behaviors should be the behaviors that naturally thin people do.
The First Area Of Focus
Food is always a factor in weight loss, how much, and what kind. When you are thinking about putting together suggestions for weight loss you will likely want to notice what behaviors you are currently doing that need some adjusting. Are you eating the wrong kinds of food? Are they too fattening, like fried foods? Do they have little nutritional value, like sugar laden or corn syrup laden foods? If you answered yes to these questions, then next you want to think about what behaviors you can suggest that would be counter to the behaviors that you are already doing. You can target a class of foods that in your own mind you know to be healthy. Like fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, healthy protein. Now you can make the connection between these foods being desirable to you. Being more attractive to you. And when you make these suggestions, at first, it will be helpful if you can elicit a feeling of attraction that you have already experienced. It doesn’t have to be a feeling of attraction that has to do specifically with food. Any attraction feeling will do, the stronger the better. After you have set up what is attractive to you, give yourself suggestions about the unhealthy foods that you currently eat and would like to avoid. Set these foods up as unattractive, and elicit a feeling of unattractiveness, or repulsion. Again, the stronger the better, just avoid a nauseous feeling so you don’t throw up.
The Second Area Of Focus
When and where you eat can affect your ability with weight loss. Think about all the places that you have allowed yourself to eat. If you are overweight, chances are that you are kind of lax as to where you find acceptable eating places. Your work desk, walking to the bus, or subway, in the car, standing in the kitchen, waiting in line, watching TV, working on the computer. When you allow yourself to eat anywhere, especially when your concentration is on something else other than eating, then eating becomes a mindless process. It becomes easy to overeat because you aren’t aware of eating at all, it has just become a rote behavior. Set up some boundaries as to where you will eat from now on. Like the dinner table, kitchen table, sitting down. Set up times when you will be able to focus on the act of eating and only eating. Also include in these suggestions the times that are appropriate for you to eat. Whether you have decided on a 3 meal/day program or a 5 meal/day program, or whatever program you are following, picture those times when you will allow yourself the freedom to eat.
Now with the above situations as with the previous area, start to create the association to pleasant feelings. It can also be non food related pleasant feelings, the stronger the better. The idea is that you want to make these new healthy behaviors very, very desirable so that you are guided by your feelings to follow through on these new attractive behaviors.
The Third Area Of Focus
Exercise or Activity is always a part of any program for weight loss. And using self hypnosis for weight loss is no different. Start off by choosing what type of activity you want to do on a regular basis. Consistency is the active ingredient for exercise to lose weight. Now think of that activity and start to associate it with pleasant feelings. The more pleasant the feeling the stronger your desire to do that behavior will become.
